Bucheon said on the 30th that it will build an intelligent urban safety system using artificial intelligence.
The city signed an agreement on cooperation in developing AI-based integrated physical security control at city hall the previous day, and will begin creating a leading "AI CITY" model incorporating AI agents.
The agreement was designed to enable faster responses to various safety situations that arise in the city. Signatories included the Bucheon Wonmi, Bucheon Sosa and Bucheon Ojeong police stations, along with companies specializing in AI and security, research institutes, public agencies and universities.
The participating organizations will draw on their respective technologies and experience to develop AI-based integrated physical security control technology, and will pursue demonstration and field application in an actual urban environment. Through this, they plan to verify both the accuracy and the potential applications of the technology.
Bucheon plans to use the agreement to address the limitations of its existing CCTV monitoring system. While current monitoring detects people, vehicles or specific situations in video footage, the new system will advance to a method in which AI comprehensively analyzes multiple video feeds and other information to support the judgment of control room operators.
The city plans in particular to apply AI agent technology to the "AI CITY" platform. AI agents go beyond answering set questions, analyzing situations on their own and determining and carrying out necessary tasks. Bucheon plans to test this in an actual urban environment to improve its usability.
The first area of application will be searching for missing persons. When control room operators or police enter details such as a missing person's physical description, the time of disappearance and the place where the person was last seen, the AI agent analyzes footage from multiple CCTV cameras to estimate the person's movements. This is expected to reduce the burden on operators of reviewing footage one clip at a time and to secure information needed for searches more quickly.
Starting with missing person searches, the city plans to expand the scope of application to various urban safety areas including crime prevention, disaster response and public safety. It also plans to continuously improve the system's accuracy and response capabilities based on data accumulated during field demonstrations.
Bucheon views the project as an opportunity to upgrade its safety net for residents rather than simply adopting new technology. With police, public agencies, private companies and universities all taking part, the city plans to focus on creating a cooperation model that can be used in the field.
"Rapid response is the most important factor in searching for missing persons and preventing crime," Bucheon Mayor Cho Yong-ik said. "Through this agreement, we will address the limitations of video monitoring and build a city that protects residents' lives and safety more closely with AI technology."
