An operation to guide a shark nicknamed "Bukang-i" out of an artificial waterway at a waterfront park in Busan's North Port back into the open sea began on Sept. 29 but failed. The shark has stayed in the channel for 12 days.
Authorities including the Busan Coast Guard and the National Institute of Fisheries Science launched the rescue operation at the park's artificial waterway that morning.
Two coast guard vessels entered the waterway and used water pumps to spray jets of water in an attempt to push the shark out, but it did not return to the sea.
Authorities plan to use nets to guide the shark out to sea on Oct. 2.
