BUSAN — Dongseo University's tailored career support system has earned a government award, the result of tying together support functions across the campus — from career planning to on-site training and job placement — and strengthening cooperation with local companies.
Jung Do-woon, head of the university's Career and Employment Support Office, received a Presidential Commendation at the 2026 Government Awards for Contributions to Job Creation, the university said on the 29th. The award recognized his work in upgrading the student-centered career and employment support system and contributing to youth job creation and regional employment through industry-academia cooperation.
At the core is full-cycle support that links the Student Success Center, the University Job Plus Center and the Work-Learning Dual System Joint Training Center. The Student Success Center helps students design majors and career paths suited to their aptitudes and strengths, while the University Job Plus Center handles counseling, employment consulting, mentoring by working professionals and corporate information sessions. The Work-Learning Dual System Joint Training Center connects university coursework with on-site training at companies to build practical skills.
Based on its "DSU READY" career and employment model, Dongseo University runs programs matched to each student's career goals and level of preparation. It has also expanded field placements and internships that draw on its network of companies in Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province, focusing on narrowing the gap between education and employment.
The university has particularly strengthened cooperation with the Busan North Branch Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor to cultivate talent that stays in the region. The plan is to link the university's education and employment support capabilities with regional employment administration, helping young people join local companies and widening a path in which they "learn, work and settle in the region."
"This award is the fruit of work done together by the university community, the Busan North Branch Office and local companies," Jung said. "We will provide support so that the potential of each and every student leads to actual employment and growth."
Dongseo University plans to further strengthen the links among the three centers and expand tailored employment support that reflects corporate demand, backing both local companies' hiring needs and young people's settlement in the region.
