BUSAN — Picio, a company based in the Busan Research and Development Special Zone, has been designated an advanced technology company by the government in recognition of its AI-based video optimization and secure transmission technology. The designation of a technology firm that commercialized regional research results is expected to give momentum to the growth of digital and security companies in the zone.
Picio was newly designated an advanced technology company with the approval of the Minister of Science and ICT and held a plaque-unveiling ceremony on the 14th, according to the Busan branch of the Innopolis Foundation.
Picio, an applied software developer and supplier based in the Busan zone, has developed a solution called LinkShield Aizip V2.0 that applies real-time optimization of video data and secure transmission based on IPsec, an encrypted dedicated tunnel built over the internet. The system processes high-speed video data while enabling stable transmission even in wireless environments, improving both the security of video information and transmission efficiency.
Its commercial potential draws attention in particular because the technology can be applied more broadly to public safety, security monitoring, industrial sites and smart infrastructure, where video data is used. Strengthening the link between research and commercialization on the back of the designation is expected to help broaden the growth base of the region's digital and security industries.
The advanced technology company designation is a government program for firms with the capacity to research, develop and commercialize advanced technologies and products. Designated companies can receive tax reductions, technology financing support and preferential treatment when participating in central and local government projects. Companies must meet certain requirements, including being located in a special zone and maintaining set levels for the share of sales from advanced technologies and products and for the ratio of research and development spending.
"This is an achievement that officially recognizes our AI-based video optimization and secure transmission technology and our commercialization capabilities," said Kwak Seo-jun, chief executive of Picio. "Through continued research and development, we will advance our video security solutions and contribute to the digital transformation of industrial sites and the public sector."
