Seoul's Gangseo District is running a training program for pet funeral directors as part of an effort to develop specialists in the pet care field.
The program is open to 18 district residents and is free of charge. Those who complete the course and pass the certification exam receive a private certification as a pet funeral director issued by the Korea Animal Funeral Association.
The four sessions run every Saturday from Oct. 24 to Nov. 14 at the Gangseo Lifelong Learning Center. Pet Forest Co., a company specializing in pet funerals and grief counseling, will lead the program, combining classroom instruction with hands-on practice.
The curriculum covers the basics of pet funerals and the role of a funeral director, procedures for washing and shrouding the body, placing it in a casket and cremation, as well as collecting remains, making memorial jewelry and counseling for pet loss syndrome.
