Seoul's Gangnam District will conduct intensive inspections of 158 fee-charging job placement agencies in the district through Nov. 27.
Gangnam has 357 registered fee-charging job placement agencies, the most of any local government in South Korea.
The district will check for excessive placement fees, false job advertisements, the collection of advance payments and whether agencies hold required guarantee insurance. It will also look into unregistered job placement activity.
Agencies found in violation face administrative sanctions, fines or criminal referral, the district said.
In the first half of the year, the district inspected 223 job placement agencies and took 29 administrative actions.
