A South Korean who rarely buys lottery tickets has won both first and second prizes in a single pension lottery draw, according to Dong Haeng Lottery.
The operator said one first-prize ticket and four second-prize tickets from the 329th draw of Pension Lottery 720+ were sold at a lottery outlet on Sillim-ro in Seoul's Gwanak district.
The winner, identified only as A, said he or she buys lottery tickets only once or twice a year and visited the outlet on a whim after watching an online video of someone scratching Speetto instant tickets.
"I bought five Speetto 1000 tickets at the shop, and the pension lottery tickets next to them caught my eye, so I bought a set as well," the winner said.
None of the five scratch tickets won anything. "I thought, 'It really is hard to win,' and my expectations disappeared," the winner recalled.
Then, remembering the pension lottery purchase, the winner checked the numbers without much hope. The result was one first-prize ticket and four second-prize tickets. The winner also said he or she had dreamed of a war breaking out the night before checking the tickets.
"For a moment I was so surprised and happy that it felt unbelievable," the winner said. "Fortune tellers had always said I wasn't destined to come into a large sum all at once, so I had no expectations of a big win. Now I feel like I've used up all the luck in my life at once." Asked about plans for the money, the winner said, "I'll save the winnings and use them to buy a home."
Pension Lottery 720+ requires a match of the group number and all six digits. First-prize winners receive 7 million won a month for 20 years, while second-prize winners receive 1 million won a month for 10 years.
