The government will begin relocating the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to Sejong in 2027 as part of an effort to strengthen a Sejong-centered administration.
Interior and Safety Minister Yoon Ho-jung said the government will move agencies in stages, starting in the first half of 2027 with those that are large or would deliver the greatest impact, such as the Ministry of Justice and the gender equality ministry. He spoke at a press conference on administrative and public agency relocation and reform of public institutions, held on the 3rd at the Government Complex Seoul.
The gender equality ministry said it will prepare for the move in line with government policy. "If the relocation is decided, we will need to prepare well," a ministry spokesperson said at a regular briefing the same day. "Having enough time for the move would help us prepare."
The specific timing and method of the relocation are expected to be finalized through further government consultations. A revision of the law must come first, however, before the ministry can move to Sejong. Article 16 of the current law on the multifunctional administrative city excludes the gender equality ministry, along with the foreign, unification, justice and defense ministries, from the list of agencies subject to relocation.
