INCHEON — Incheon Port Authority held a conference to strengthen disaster response at the port, a core piece of South Korea's logistics infrastructure, and to prevent workplace accidents at cargo-handling sites.
The 2026 Incheon Port Authority Port Safety Conference took place at BEXCO in Busan on the 3rd. The event was held alongside the 2026 Korea Safety Industry Expo, the country's largest disaster-prevention exhibition, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Busan Metropolitan Government. The port authority said the format allowed it to benchmark advanced safety technologies from across the country while working to keep the port's core logistics functions running without interruption during disasters or emergencies.
The conference was divided into two main sessions, one on port disaster and safety response management and the other on measures to prevent major accidents at port work sites.
The first session reviewed how public institutions should mount systematic initial responses to large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, storms and floods, along with continuity plans designed to keep port functions from shutting down. The second session examined serious accidents that occur at actual port workplaces, including workers being caught in large cranes during cargo handling, yard tractor collisions and falls, and focused on site-level measures such as practical guidelines for managing protective equipment.
Safety officers from the authority's various departments agreed to share potential on-site hazards in real time and to build a standing collaboration system that removes barriers between departments.
"Ports are the arteries supporting the national logistics supply chain, so core logistics functions must be maintained under any disaster conditions," said Nam In-sik, head of the safety management office at Incheon Port Authority. "We will completely eliminate safety blind spots at cargo-handling sites and firmly establish a field-centered response system."
