DAEJEON — A married couple has been given prison terms for stealing computer parts from motel rooms, the legal community said on the 2nd.
Judge Baek Kyung-hyun of the Daejeon District Court sentenced the husband, a man in his 30s identified as A, to two years in prison, and his wife, a woman in her 40s identified as B, to one year in prison suspended for two years. The two were charged with aggravated theft, embezzlement and fraud.
Prosecutors said the couple booked a room at a motel in Daejeon's Jung District in February, dismantled the computer in the room and removed its graphics card. They stole about 8 million won worth of computer parts in five separate incidents, according to the indictment.
The husband was also charged with stealing cigarettes from a convenience store and with taking 100,000 won from a buyer by pretending he would sell an online game account.
"They entered motels several times and stole computer parts, but they compensated the victims and reached settlements, and the victims do not want them punished," the court said. The judge said he set the separate terms after taking into account that the husband had committed other offenses.
