A man in his 70s who assaulted a water purifier repairman after being told a parts replacement fee would apply has been sentenced to a fine.
According to the legal community on the 25th, Judge Lee Byung-ho of the Changwon District Court's Criminal Division 7 fined the defendant, identified as A, 300,000 won on assault charges.
A is accused of hurling verbal abuse at B, a water purifier repairman in his 30s, and forcefully shoving the upper part of B's chest with his right hand on June 23 last year, when B visited A's home in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province.
At the time, B had visited A's house to replace the water purifier's drip tray. According to the investigation, A flew into a rage and committed the offense after being told the part was not eligible for free replacement and that he would have to pay a fee of 8,000 won.
"We took into account his attitude of evading responsibility and the fact that he has been subject to criminal punishment on several occasions," the court said in explaining the sentence.
