SRT engineer Kim Min-seul has become the country's youngest female high-speed rail engineer and the first female engineer at SR.
Born in 1996, Kim is the only woman among SR's 215 engineers.
Kim was assigned as an engineer at the Busan Crew Center on the 1st of this month, then completed five days of theoretical training. She will begin full-fledged high-speed train duty after finishing five weeks of practical training on trains in actual operation, starting Thursday.
SR held an appointment ceremony Thursday to mark Kim's first practical training. SR CEO Jung Wang-guk and SR labor union chairman Kim Sang-soo presented epaulets and a commemorative plaque, as labor and management together celebrated the birth of the first female engineer.
Kim obtained a Class 2 electric railcar driver's license in 2019 and began train duty as an engineer on the Airport Railroad in 2021. She joined SR through open recruitment for experienced professionals in December 2024 and worked as an SRT cabin manager for one year and four months. She went through the engineer training course starting in February this year and obtained her high-speed rail vehicle driver's license in May.
"In the year marking the 10th anniversary of SRT's launch, our first female engineer has emerged," SR CEO Jung Wang-guk said. "I hope she will take pride in being the country's youngest female high-speed rail engineer and do her best for the safe operation of high-speed trains."
