The Busan Port Authority has been recognized by the government for its prevention-focused disaster management system and on-site response capabilities.
The Busan Port Authority (BPA) said Monday it was selected as a top-performing agency in the "2026 Disaster Management Evaluation" conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Disaster Management Evaluation is a system that comprehensively assesses the management systems and performance across the entire disaster process — prevention, preparedness, response and recovery — for 335 disaster management agencies nationwide, including central government ministries, local governments and public institutions.
BPA received high marks for establishing a disaster safety management system that reflects the characteristics of port operations, conducting on-site inspections of disaster-vulnerable facilities, carrying out practical disaster response drills and operating a collaborative system with related agencies.
In particular, the on-site-focused disaster safety management system built jointly by working-level departments, pier operators and related agencies, along with repeated disaster response drills, was recognized as an exemplary case.
Using this evaluation as an opportunity, BPA plans to strengthen data-based management of disaster-vulnerable areas, expand joint drills with related agencies, and reinforce a system for continuously identifying and improving risk factors at port facilities, further enhancing Busan Port's disaster response capacity and operational continuity.
"Busan Port is a core infrastructure facility supporting national logistics and the industrial economy," BPA President Song Sang-keun said. "We will continuously advance our prevention-focused disaster management system to create a safe Busan Port where citizens and port workers can feel secure."
