Naju City in Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City is drawing attention for its efforts to build sustainable rural communities centered on its Life Improvement Association. The association continuously promotes various educational and talent-sharing activities to develop the capacity of women farmers, serve local communities, pass on traditional living culture, and boost rural vitality.
According to Naju City on Sunday, the city is conducting traveling education to spread a culture of practicing carbon neutrality, create a safe farm work environment, and strengthen the capacity to utilize rural resources. The education, which began on the 22nd of last month, is being held eight times through the 21st, with Life Improvement Association members from 14 towns and villages participating.
The program consists of common education for spreading a "2050 carbon neutrality practice culture," preventing heat-related illnesses in summer, and improving farm work safety awareness, along with hands-on education to enhance the capacity to utilize rural resources.
In the common education, participants share carbon neutrality practice measures for responding to climate change and achieving sustainable agriculture, and receive training on summer heat-related illness prevention guidelines and farm work safety management practices. The hands-on education is run as training in domestic rice processing techniques and natural dyeing techniques using local rural resources.
"I hope this traveling education will serve as an opportunity to establish a culture of practicing carbon neutrality and a safe farm work environment, and to raise members' capacity and sense of community," Naju Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said.
