
Police said they are currently investigating 176 people in a total of 71 cases related to protests at the Songpa vote-counting site in Olympic Park, Songpa District, Seoul.
Hong Seok-ki, head of the National Investigation Headquarters, said at a regular press briefing held at the National Police Agency in Seodaemun District, Seoul, on Wednesday morning, "We have received a total of 83 cases involving 186 people, and are investigating 71 cases involving 176 people among them."
According to the National Police Agency, the cases currently under investigation include five cases (27 people) of coercion and obstruction of business, 10 cases (66 people) of defamation and insult, three cases (nine people) of obstruction of official duties, and 53 cases (74 people) of assault and other charges.
A total of 12 cases have been closed. Seven cases involving four people, including obstruction of official duties targeting police officers and assault of ordinary citizens, were referred to the prosecution (one person detained), while five cases involving six people, including assault between ordinary citizens, were dropped without being referred.
Police plan to continue rigorous investigations into illegal acts such as assault, obstruction of business, and obstruction of official duties that occurred during the vote-counting site protests.
