NEW YORK — First Lady Kim Hye-kyung attended a luncheon for spouses of world leaders hosted by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump on the 22nd, calling for international cooperation on the education and safety of future generations in the digital age. Kim is accompanying President Lee Jae-myung on his visit to the United States for the U.N. General Assembly.
Kim attended the luncheon of the Fostering the Future Together (FTFT) coalition at the St. Regis hotel in New York, Presidential Office Deputy Spokesperson Ahn Gwi-ryeong said in a written briefing.
The FTFT coalition is an alliance of spouses of world leaders launched by Melania Trump on the occasion of the 80th U.N. General Assembly last year. It aims to help children grow up healthily in the digital age through education, innovation and technology. Spouses of leaders from about 50 countries currently take part, and global technology companies including Meta, Google and OpenAI have joined as partners.
Welcoming the spouses, Melania Trump said the future of the world will be determined by what is done for children today.
Kim, noting that she attended the reception marking the coalition's launch last year, said the coalition had grown quickly on the shared understanding that advances in digital technology must lead to a better future for children. She stressed the need for international cooperation, saying the challenges of the digital transition cannot be resolved by any single country's efforts alone. Korea is also making various efforts toward digital education that broadens learning opportunities while protecting children's safety, she said.
Kim exchanged views with the spouses of other leaders on the direction of education in the digital age and ways to use technology safely, and they agreed to strengthen international solidarity and cooperation to protect the safety of future generations.
