President Lee Jae-myung said on the 18th that a second consecutive term for himself through a constitutional amendment is "constitutionally impossible," adding, "Let me state this firmly once again. I have absolutely no intention of serving a second term." He made the remarks at a news conference on current affairs held at the presidential compound in Cheongwadae.
President Lee said the 1987 constitution "no longer fits South Korea," pledging to work toward a revision that can be achieved "through reasonable debate between the ruling and opposition parties and a national consensus."
