Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon sent Gupo noodles, a dried-noodle specialty from Busan's Gupo district, and handwritten letters to every lawmaker of the People Power Party ahead of the Chuseok holiday, and PPP lawmaker Yoo Yong-won described how the party has received the gesture.
Yoo spoke about the mood inside the party on the 17th during an appearance on YTN Radio's "Lee Dong-hyung's News Head-to-Head."
Asked about the reaction within the PPP, Yoo said, "As far as I know, it was also sent to Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk, and as I understand it, the response to this has not been bad."
He drew a line, however, at the idea that the gift could speed up Han's return to the party. "I think the chances are low that this would suddenly accelerate Chairman Han's return to the party," Yoo said, adding, "But in terms of what you might call a kind of personal outreach, I think it may have a somewhat positive effect."
On the contents of the gift, Yoo said, "He wrote the letters himself in his own hand, quite carefully." He added, "In any case, I received the handwritten one myself, so I think those things may resonate with people somewhat."
When the host asked whether a merger would need to happen before the next general election to produce a synergy effect, Yoo said, "Yes. That goes without saying," expressing agreement on the need for unity in the coming election phase.
