Speaking on her way to work on Feb. 2 to prepare for her confirmation hearing, Yong said, "I know well that a confirmation hearing is not simply a space to speak alone, but a space to communicate with the public, so I will prepare well for the hearing and organize my thoughts so that I can convey them."
"I am well aware that there are many concerns and worries," she said. "I will listen, and listen again. Wherever the public needs the government, the gender equality ministry will always be there first."
Yong has said she would not relinquish her proportional representation seat in the National Assembly upon accepting the ministerial post. In a social media post on Jan. 31, she signaled she would keep her seat, saying, "If I, the party's only lawmaker, were to resign, the Basic Income Party would face the difficulty of becoming a party without any seats in the National Assembly."
