President Lee Jae-myung issued a message of encouragement over the police crackdown on "ghost cars," saying he was "grateful and supportive."
On the 25th, President Lee wrote on his X account, formerly Twitter, that "ghost cars had effectively been left unchecked while being exploited for crimes, so the intensive crackdown by the National Office of Investigation was a very good move." Ghost cars refer to vehicles whose registered owners differ from their actual users. He added, "I hope you will swiftly and thoroughly crack down on other offenders harming public livelihood to ease people's concerns."
According to the police National Office of Investigation, an intensive five-month crackdown on ghost cars in the first half of this year uncovered 1,928 such vehicles and led to the arrest of 380 suspects.
Meanwhile, President Lee, who is on a tour of the United States and three South American countries, wrapped up his schedule in San Francisco around 9 p.m. on the 25th and boarded Air Force One to head to Brasília, the capital of Brazil.
