
President Lee Jae-myung, who visited Turkey to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit, held an informal meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday to discuss cooperation measures.
Wi Sung-lac, director of the National Security Office, announced this at a briefing held at the press center set up in Ankara. "The president held an informal meeting with Prime Minister Carney ahead of the official schedule," Wi said. "Regarding the selection of the preferred bidder for Canada's submarine, we held a phone call last weekend at Prime Minister Carney's request, and Canada explained the selection result to us with special courtesy."
He added, "Korea and Canada will continue to deepen the comprehensive partnership between the two countries. In this submarine bidding process as well, the two countries confirmed the possibility of cooperation in various fields including defense, the defense industry, energy, and critical minerals, and will continue to expand practical cooperation going forward."
He also noted, "At today's informal meeting, the two sides held serious and specific discussions on future artificial intelligence (AI) cooperation between Korea and Canada."
