President Lee Jae-myung marked the 250th anniversary of US independence Friday, saying, "I extend my congratulations to President Donald Trump and the American people."
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Lee said, "The United States, which began its great journey toward the ideals of freedom and democracy 250 years ago, has overcome countless challenges and led peace and prosperity in the international community." He added, "The Republic of Korea is a valued partner of the United States that has upheld these values together. During the Korean War more than 70 years ago, countless young Americans did not hesitate to make sacrifices to protect the freedom of the Republic of Korea." He stressed, "We will forever remember that noble dedication and carry the Korea-US alliance forward even more firmly."
Lee also said, "Today, the two countries are developing into future-oriented partners that prosper together, expanding the horizon of cooperation beyond security to the economy and future fields including advanced technology, energy, shipbuilding, nuclear power and artificial intelligence." He added, "Going forward, together with President Trump and based on shared values and firm trust, we will achieve a new leap for the Korea-US alliance and contribute together to peace and shared prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in the world."
Lee added, "Once again, I congratulate you on the 250th anniversary of independence, and I wholeheartedly wish God's blessings and peace upon all the American people."
