The Democratic Party of Korea expressed strong regret over a US congressional report claiming that the Korean government is discriminating against American companies such as Coupang, saying the report distorted the facts.
Jang Yoon-mi, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, made the remarks in a written briefing Wednesday, stating that "the report seriously distorts the position of the Korean government based on Coupang's one-sided claims and unverified data."
"The Korean government does not discriminate against or apply unfair pressure on companies based on the nationality of specific firms," Jang said. "Coupang must stop the practice of shifting responsibility to the government to hide its own faults."
The Democratic Party also mentioned Coupang's recent large-scale personal data breach. "Coupang should not play the victim while remaining irresponsibly silent on a serious personal data breach," Jang stressed.
