Hanwha Corporation's (000880.KS) construction division is operating a "mobile winter snack truck" program to encourage workers at construction sites during the cold winter season.
On Thursday, the company announced it would provide traditional winter snacks including steamed buns (hobbang) and fish cakes to all employees, including subcontractor workers, at construction sites nationwide. The snack trucks feature messages of encouragement for workers along with safety reminders to prevent winter accidents. The program, which began on January 16, will operate sequentially at different sites through January 30.
On Wednesday, a snack truck visited the Daejeon Sewage Treatment Plant modernization project site. Approximately 400 people participated in the event, including Kim Woo-seok, CEO of Hanwha's construction division, site managers, subcontractor employees and daily workers. Workers enjoyed snacks and took a break at rest areas within the site.
Hanwha's construction division is working to prevent cold-related illnesses by distributing safety and health checklists and reinforcing worker rest facilities as part of its "Five Basic Rules for Cold Wave Safety" ahead of the severe winter cold. The company is also running seasonal campaigns to prevent winter accidents and conducting emotional safety activities to protect workers' health.
"I was able to forget the cold for a moment while sharing warm snacks with my colleagues at the site," said Kang Seok-kyu, deputy general manager at Korea Concrete Industry, a Hanwha subcontractor. "The snack truck really brightened the mood at the site."
Kim Sang-ho, project director at the Daejeon Sewage Treatment Plant modernization site, said, "Managing workers' condition is more important than anything during safety-vulnerable periods like winter. We will continue to spread a safety culture based on workers' voluntary participation and empathy."
Hanwha's construction division conducts various site support activities tailored to seasonally vulnerable periods, including operating shaved ice trucks and installing cooling rest facilities in summer. The company plans to continue promoting safety culture through ongoing worker encouragement initiatives.
