WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump again referred to South Korea and Japan in connection with the Alaska liquefied natural gas project.
Speaking with reporters at the White House on the 2nd, Trump said, "You have Japan and South Korea. All of these people are going to Alaska to load fuel, to load oil, to build the pipeline and everything else." POSCO International, a unit of POSCO Group, has expanded its involvement in the project, including acquiring a direct stake in the Alaska LNG venture.
Trump's comments came as he threw his support behind Republican candidate Dan Sullivan, who is seeking a third term in Alaska's federal Senate race. Sullivan advanced through a recent primary alongside Democratic candidate Mary Peltola, and the two will face off in November's midterm elections. "Dan Sullivan is a great senator," Trump said, adding, "Nobody has done more for Alaska than Donald Trump. We invested billions of dollars and created trillions of dollars in value."
At a briefing marking his first year in office on January 20, Trump also mentioned the Alaska pipeline project, saying the United States secured an unprecedented level of funding as it struck trade agreements with South Korea and Japan.
