U.S. President Donald Trump is moving toward a negotiated end to the war with Iran. Ahead of resuming talks, he will first meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu will visit the United States on Saturday to meet with Trump, according to CNN on Friday. The two leaders agreed to the meeting during a phone call on Tuesday.
The United States and Israel jointly struck Iran in late February with the goal of dismantling Iran's nuclear program. However, the two leaders have shown discord over how to end the war.
"We are getting along very well," Trump said in an interview with Axios the previous day. He added, "Netanyahu knows who the boss is," signaling that he holds the upper hand in the relationship.
Regarding the funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei, Trump said Thursday, "Iran desperately wants to negotiate, so we gave them a week's vacation." He said, "Iran's leaders are all there, and I could eliminate them in one shot, but I won't do that because we can't lose our negotiating partner."
Saudi state media reported Friday that follow-up negotiations on the war-end memorandum of understanding (MOU) will resume in Pakistan on the 11th. The talks are expected to address sanctions on Iran, the release of frozen assets, and nuclear issues.
