Hanwha (000880) Group has carried out its annual executive reshuffle, elevating performance and what it calls "young leadership." The group moved the announcement up by more than a month from previous years, prompting speculation that other major conglomerates may also accelerate their own executive appointments.
Hanwha Group announced the annual executive appointments at its main affiliates the previous day, according to business sources on the 2nd. Hanwha Corp. named 10 new executives, Hanwha Aerospace (012450) 16, Hanwha Systems (272210) five, and Hanwha Solutions (009830) together with its subsidiary Hanwha Advanced Materials 10.
The focus was on performance and the appointment of younger leaders. Hanwha Solutions and Hanwha Advanced Materials selected six of their 10 new executives from those born in the 1980s. Hanwha Solutions said the appointments followed a merit-based principle of choosing people based on business results, expertise and future growth potential, regardless of age or years of service.
"We gave greater responsibility to people who have built expertise in the field and proven their results, while boldly promoting younger leaders to widen the pool of next-generation management candidates," a Hanwha Solutions official said. "We plan to move faster toward becoming an organization that speeds up decision-making and responds nimbly to market changes."
Hanwha Aerospace also appointed new executives with business expertise and technical capabilities to carry out its strategy of expanding global operations and localization. "Through these appointments, we will accelerate our expansion into global markets and the development of products with a decisive technology lead, securing a competitive edge ahead of rivals," a Hanwha Aerospace official said.
Hanwha Systems said it elevated people with proven expertise and leadership to accelerate its push into global markets and expand its AI transformation (AX) business, while Hanwha Ocean did so to pursue manufacturing and AX innovation aimed at improving production competitiveness and to expand in the North American market.
Hanwha Group's appointments, normally announced in November, came more than a month earlier this time. In August, the group promoted Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan to senior vice chairman, Hanwha Life Insurance President Kim Dong-won to vice chairman and Hanwha Vision Executive Vice President Kim Dong-sun to president, and replaced the chief executives of major affiliates. With the latest round, it has completed appointments down to the working-level executive ranks within two months.
The move is read as an effort to lock in appointments early and secure the execution capacity to compete in global markets at a time of growing uncertainty at home and abroad. "Hanwha's early executive reshuffle could prompt other groups to move up their own appointment schedules as well," a business source said.
