
S-OIL (010950.KS) said it held the 2026 Citizen Hero of the Year awards ceremony with the Korea National Council on Social Welfare on the 1st at its headquarters in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, presenting plaques and a combined 140 million won ($100,000) to 19 recipients.
Ko Kyung-sik and Jung Taek-eun, who were injured while carrying out rescues, each received 15 million won. Ko fractured a bone in June while towing a wrecked vessel to safety at Jeju Port. Jung inhaled excessive amounts of toxic fumes in December last year while helping to put out a house fire in Jangan-dong and was hospitalized at a burn treatment center. The other honorees each received 10 million won.
S-OIL has identified a total of 369 civic heroes over the 19 years since 2008 and has awarded about 2.6 billion won. "Citizens who show a spirit of sacrifice for neighbors in danger are the true heroes of our society," S-OIL Chief Executive Anwar Al Hejazi said. "S-OIL will continue to support civic heroes who have sacrificed themselves for others."
S-OIL, which marked its 50th anniversary this year, posted second-quarter consolidated revenue of 11.34 trillion won, operating profit of 965 billion won and net profit of 514.6 billion won.
