NAVER (035420) Chief Executive Choi Soo-yeon attended a United Nations Global Compact board meeting and proposed that the organization use the company's artificial intelligence tools.
NAVER said on the 30th that Choi took part in the UNGC board meeting held on the 19th at U.N. headquarters in New York. At the meeting, Choi proposed that the UNGC consider using NAVER's digital and AI-based tools to strengthen collaboration within its global network. Those tools include NAVER Cloud's collaboration platform NAVER Works and its AI-powered translation service Papago Plus.
NAVER also plans to explore potential cooperation with the UNGC headquarters as well as about 70 country networks and participating small and mid-sized companies. The company aims to strengthen cross-border collaboration and maximize operational efficiency through AI and digital technology, with specific forms of cooperation and timing to be decided through discussions.
The UNGC is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, with more than 25,000 companies and institutions in over 100 countries taking part. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UNGC Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo attended the board meeting. Choi was formally appointed to the UNGC board in September last year, becoming the first South Korean to serve in the role in 17 years, and is currently serving a three-year term.
"To give the UNGC's work greater momentum, an efficient collaboration system that breaks down barriers between countries and regions is essential," Choi said. "I hope NAVER's AI and digital technology can help the digital transformation of UNGC local networks and accelerate global communication."
