HD Hyundai E&F, the district energy unit of HD Hyundai Oilbank, has completed a liquefied natural gas cogeneration plant built at a cost of 435 billion won ($313 million).
The company said on Sept. 14 that it held a completion ceremony for the LNG cogeneration plant at the Daesan petrochemical complex in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do. Attendees included HD Hyundai Oilbank Chief Executives Song Myung-jun and Chung Im-joo and HD Hyundai E&F Chief Executive Kim Myung-hyun.
HD Hyundai E&F invested about 435 billion won over roughly two years after breaking ground in March 2024, building power generation and heat supply facilities and entering commercial operation at the end of July this year following phased test runs.
The plant uses a high-efficiency gas turbine combined-cycle system fueled by LNG to produce electricity and heat at the same time. It can generate 290 megawatts of power and has a heat production capacity of 321 tons per hour.
HD Hyundai E&F supplies the electricity and heat to companies operating in the Daesan petrochemical complex, including H&L Advanced.
"The completion of this LNG cogeneration plant is significant in that it has further strengthened the energy infrastructure of the Daesan petrochemical complex," Song said. "We expect HD Hyundai E&F to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of tenant companies and to the development of local industry on the basis of a stable energy supply."
Kim said the company "will do its best to operate the high-efficiency combined-cycle facilities stably and supply electricity and heat without disruption," adding that it "will continuously improve facility efficiency to help customers raise their energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions."
