
APR (278470) is stepping up efforts to advance its beauty device research and development capabilities.
APR said on the 26th that it held the "Kick-Off Meeting for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Semiconductor Advanced Industrial Technology Development Project" on the 23rd at Lotte World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
The meeting was held to share the phased goals of the semiconductor advanced industrial technology development project promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, along with the overall direction and plans for the project. Attendees included Shin Jae-woo, head of APR's R&D Center, and Park Dong-hee, head of APR's Technology Research Lab, as well as officials from participating institutions including domestic university research centers and government-funded research institutes.
APR was selected last month as the lead institution for the project and will carry out research and development with participating institutions through 2029. A total of 7.6 billion won in funding is to be invested in the consortium. APR will concentrate its capabilities on independently securing the core components and system technologies that determine the competitiveness of beauty devices. In particular, the company plans to conduct research on system semiconductors that implement everything from device output stability to miniaturization, power efficiency, safety control, and user experience.
APR was selected last month as the lead institution for this project and will carry out the tasks together with participating institutions over the next four years through 2029. A total of 7.6 billion won in funding is to be provided to the consortium. APR is focusing on internalizing the core components and system technologies that determine the competitiveness of beauty device products. Accordingly, the company plans to conduct research on system semiconductors, a key technological element that determines everything from device output stability to miniaturization, power efficiency, safety control, and user experience.
APR plans to focus on expanding the product commercialization capabilities it has built up in the existing beauty device field into the areas of semiconductors and core original technologies. It then plans to reduce its dependence on external components and secure a K-beauty tech technology platform that combines semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and hardware. Future development results are expected to broaden their scope of application to home care devices for household use, professional-grade devices, and core module platforms for beauty equipment.
APR entered the beauty device business in 2021 and, in 2022, formed the APR Device R&D Center (ADC), a beauty device research and development organization, to internalize original technologies. APR is also putting effort into filing related patents.
"This project selection is significant in that it externally recognizes the beauty device expertise APR has accumulated," an APR official said. "Through cooperation with domestic specialized research institutions and universities, we will internalize core K-beauty tech technologies and secure differentiated technological competitiveness in the global market."
