HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has been selected as the preferred bidder eligible for detailed design of the BEXCO Third Exhibition Hall construction project in Busan, marking its third consecutive major public construction win in the first half of this year.
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction's construction division said Monday it had been selected as the preferred bidder for the "Busan BEXCO Third Exhibition Hall Construction Project" ordered by the Busan Metropolitan City Construction Headquarters.
The bid was conducted under a weighted evaluation system combining a technical proposal score of 60% and a price score of 40%, making the differentiation in design scores the key factor in determining the outcome. According to the evaluation results, the consortium in which HJ Shipbuilding & Construction participated as lead manager took an early lead over competitors in the technical assessment. It also ranked first overall in the final evaluation that included the price score, securing the contract. The construction cost is 257.2 billion won (including VAT), and the construction period is 50 months from the groundbreaking date.
The BEXCO Third Exhibition Hall construction project is a large-scale project to build an additional exhibition hall with a total floor area of 58,810 square meters, one basement level and four above-ground levels, on the parking lot site in front of the BEXCO First Exhibition Hall in Haeundae-gu, Busan. As a major public project emerging amid the recent construction industry downturn, it had drawn keen interest from large and mid-sized domestic construction firms even before the bidding.
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction secured major public projects in the first half of this year, including the "West Busan Administrative Complex Town Construction Project" (63.7 billion won) and the "Jecheon-Yeongwol Highway Section 3 Construction Project" (163.7 billion won), and has now added the "BEXCO Third Exhibition Hall Construction Project" to its wins. With this, the company has further solidified its unrivaled leadership in the large public construction and technical bid markets.
BEXCO's exhibition utilization rate has exceeded the saturation threshold of 60%, making space expansion an urgent task. Once the Third Exhibition Hall is completed, it is expected to significantly boost competitiveness in attracting global exhibitions and conventions. The HJ Shipbuilding & Construction consortium selected as the winning bidder will carry out priority construction work while conducting detailed design for the remaining portions, and plans to begin full-scale construction at year-end after coordination with the Busan City Construction Headquarters.
