Korea Line, the shipping unit of the SM Group, said on the 7th that Min Sang-ki, former president of Konkuk University, has taken office as its new chief executive officer (president).
Korea Line held an extraordinary shareholders' meeting and a board meeting the previous day at the Listed Companies Building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and approved the appointment of Min as its new CEO. His term is two years.
Born in 1955 in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, Min earned bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in food engineering from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany, before being appointed a professor at Konkuk University in 1995. He later served as graduate school dean and vice president for academic affairs at the same university, and served as its 20th president for four years, from September 2016 to August 2020.
During his tenure as president, he was credited with building a talent-development system geared for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution through initiatives such as undergraduate education reform to strengthen industry-academia cooperation and the securing of projects to lead the promotion of industry linkages.
Korea Line expects that Min's leadership as an expert in organizational management and talent development will greatly contribute to enhancing corporate value as a national flag carrier, achieving sustainable growth, and establishing ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management.
In his inaugural address, Min said, "I will actively target high-value-added markets while strengthening our foundation through relentless innovation to drive growth and discover future business, ESG management that makes sustainability the top priority, and the establishment of flawless ethical management." He added, "I will elevate Korea Line into a global shipping company that delivers the best value and vision to our customers and shareholders."
