Korea Investment & Securities has teamed up with fashion platform MUSINSA to hold the "5th Hantoo Battle Real Investment Contest" targeting the MZ generation, running through the 31st, the company said Thursday. It marks the first real investment contest in Korea's securities industry co-planned with a fashion and beauty platform.
The aim is to lower entry barriers so that people in their 20s and 30s can enjoy stock investing as casually as fashion. To this end, the contest breaks away from the conventional format focused solely on competition for top returns, instead putting forward a "participation-based" program in which anyone can join and reap benefits regardless of performance.
New participants are given a "roulette" chance to win prizes. The contest also runs an "Outfit of the Day (OOTD)" section that awards MUSINSA Money gift certificates to those who post proof shots of their investment participation and their own styling on social media. In addition, participants can earn rewards by completing weekly designated trading missions or simply meeting basic conditions.
Through the 15th, an event spanning both companies' apps is also being held. The first 20,000 people who access the MUSINSA app and apply for "Get a Random Stock" will randomly receive one share from among KOSPI 200 constituent stocks or major exchange-traded funds (ETFs). During the event period, 20 investors will be selected by drawing from among those who open a BanKIS stock account with Korea Investment & Securities for the first time, each receiving one share of Samsung Electronics stock.
"This is an attempt to break the grammar of past real investment contests that were obsessed only with battling over returns, and to show that stock investing can also be part of an enjoyable lifestyle," said Kwak Jin, head of Korea Investment & Securities' eBiz division. "We will continue to offer unique experiences through borderless collaboration across different industries."
