The five Korean automakers' combined global sales for the first half of this year reached 3,962,921 units, a slight decline from the same period last year.
A tally of first-half sales for Hyundai Motor (005380.KS), Kia (000270.KS), GM Korea, Renault Korea, and KG Mobility (003620.KS) released Tuesday showed total sales of 3,962,921 units, down 1.0 percent from 4,003,240 units a year earlier.
Domestic sales fell 3.6 percent to 661,456 units, while overseas sales declined 0.5 percent to 3,301,465 units.
Kia (1,630,988 units), GM Korea (275,523 units), and KG Mobility (56,759 units) posted gains, while Hyundai Motor (1,966,267 units) and Renault Korea (33,384 units) declined.
For Kia, the figure marked its highest first-half sales on record since it began selling automobiles in 1962.
The best-selling model in the domestic market during the first half was the Kia Sorento, with 55,426 units sold.
It was followed by the Hyundai Grandeur (38,390 units), Kia Sportage (31,263 units), Hyundai Sonata (30,339 units), and Kia Carnival (30,202 units).
Meanwhile, June global sales rose 0.9 percent to 698,800 units from 691,507 units a year earlier.
Domestic sales increased 3.0 percent from the same month last year to 121,299 units.
Kia rose 18.7 percent to 54,981 units, while KG Mobility gained 20.0 percent to 3,637 units.
Hyundai Motor fell 6.2 percent to 58,232 units, while GM Korea (1,049 units) and Renault Korea (4,651 units) declined 18.0 percent and 32.2 percent, respectively.
Overseas sales rose 0.5 percent from a year earlier to 577,501 units.
Kia increased 7.6 percent to 240,739 units, KG Mobility rose 34.6 percent to 8,345 units, and GM Korea gained 7.3 percent to 40,785 units, while Hyundai Motor fell 5.8 percent to 280,081 units and Renault Korea dropped 64.8 percent to 1,251 units.
The best-selling model in June was the Hyundai Grandeur (10,062 units), which unveiled a facelift version, followed by the Kia Sorento (8,561 units), Seltos (6,685 units), Carnival (6,267 units), and Sportage (6,176 units).
