LS Electric is highlighting the historic bond between South Korea and the U.S. state of Utah forged in the "Battle of Gapyeong," ahead of the 76th anniversary of the Korean War. The move reflects the management philosophy of LS Electric Chairman Koo Ja-kyun, who said: "A great company can be built with outstanding capabilities, but the firm friendship and trust that span generations can only be forged through unchanging, heartfelt sincerity."
According to business circles Wednesday, LS Electric sponsored Southern Utah University's program supporting Korean War veterans, covering all expenses so that surviving veterans could attend the "75th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Gapyeong" held in Korea last month. During the Korean War, 240 young soldiers from Utah held off a fierce offensive by some 4,000 Chinese troops in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, without a single combat death, in what came to be known as the "Miracle of Gapyeong."
Koo judged that such a war victory should not remain in the past but could be carried forward as a foundation for the present business. That is why, after LS Electric acquired MCM Engineering II in Cedar City, Utah, in 2022, Koo personally oversaw a large-scale expansion and strengthened ties with the local community.
Rather than putting business logic first, Koo focused on building a deep and genuine bond with the local community with which the company shares history.
"Behind the foundation that allows us to take firm root in the U.S. market today lies the noble sacrifice of Utah veterans who shed their blood and sweat for freedom and peace," Koo said. "Remembering and honoring the heroes who created the Miracle of Gapyeong is a company's rightful duty, and the local business built upon such firm trust will achieve growth that can never be shaken."
Meanwhile, LS Electric is also participating in the construction of a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education facility at Southern Utah University, supporting the cultivation of future industrial talent in the area. The company is also actively working to secure outstanding local personnel with ties to Korea, including by joining the "Memorandum of Understanding to Establish a Hiring Platform for U.S. Forces Korea" led by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
