Lee Bo-ryong, president of Hyundai Steel (004020.KS), urged employees across all worksites to "overcome the internal and external crises surrounding the steel industry through innovation in the way we work" during a meeting with staff.
Lee made the remarks at a "CEO Town Hall Meeting" held Tuesday at the Safety Culture Center of the Dangjin Steelworks, where he met with about 50 on-site participants as well as employees from all worksites who joined via live online broadcast.
Citing the internal and external crises facing the steel industry, Lee stressed that "we must turn this into an opportunity for a new leap forward." He called for Hyundai Steel's "Vision 2032" to "move beyond a mere declaration and translate into execution on the ground," adding that "the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation technologies must also be pursued in a direction that enhances the company's fundamental competitiveness, such as productivity and safety." Vision 2032 is Hyundai Steel's mid- to long-term growth roadmap, with targets for 2032 including sales volumes of automotive steel sheets and carbon-reduction products.
At the event, the company also unveiled the "Steelmaking Recipe Book," its first in-house standard for work methods, which compiles the operational know-how and standards accumulated by Hyundai Steel's members. It carries the core message: "Judge according to standards, share immediately, and take responsibility to the end." Lee encouraged employees, saying, "Innovation in the way we work is not something grandiose, but systematizing the good precedents we have built up on the ground and applying them to actual work," and that "when all members work based on the same standards, we can create greater results."
