Koramco Asset Management is accelerating its push into Korea's digital infrastructure market by breaking ground on an artificial intelligence (AI)-specialized data center in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, together with DCI, a Brookfield affiliate and global infrastructure operator.
Koramco Asset Management said Wednesday it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the "Ansan Sihwa AI Data Center (SEL02)" on a site in the Sihwa National Industrial Complex in Seonggok-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan, in partnership with DCI Data Centers, the Asia-Pacific data center operator under Brookfield.
The Ansan Sihwa AIDC is a Tier 3 facility built on a site of approximately 10,448 square meters with a total floor area of about 26,810 square meters. It secures a power capacity of 40 megawatts (MW) and is equipped with a redundant power system and a high-reliability cooling system to meet demand for high-performance computing centered on AI and cloud services. The Sihwa National Industrial Complex is regarded as an industrial hub in the southwestern Seoul metropolitan area, with well-rounded power grid, telecommunications infrastructure, and road access.
DCI participates in equity investment while also taking responsibility for the entire process, from design and construction to long-term operation after completion. As an asset management company (AMC), Koramco oversees overall development, including investment and financial structure design and construction management. The structure combines global operational capabilities with domestic development and investment execution. Hyundai Engineering & Construction is in charge of construction.
Koramco previously developed and operates the "K Square Data Center Gasan" in Gasan-dong, Seoul. Following this Ansan Sihwa project, the company is also pursuing the development of a 100 MW AI and mixed-use data center within Rhythm City in Uijeongbu. The strategy is to gradually expand a digital infrastructure portfolio connecting the Seoul metropolitan area and key hubs. Koramco aims to invest about 10 trillion won in the data center sector by 2032 and establish an operating base of 1.4 gigawatts (GW) in terms of power capacity.
"The groundbreaking of the Ansan Sihwa data center is an important turning point where our digital infrastructure investment strategy leads to tangible business results," said Kim Tae-won, CEO of Koramco. "By combining the development and operation experience accumulated at the Gasan data center with DCI's global expertise, we will complete it as a competitive asset that responds to domestic AI infrastructure demand."
