5. Different Robots Move Without Collisions to Charge: Aiming to Lead International Standards
- Key Summary: The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) is moving to take the lead in international standards for robot wireless charging technology. Last month, KETI received unanimous approval for three new international standard proposals (NPs) related to autonomous mobile body charging from seven major participating countries, including the United States, China, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, and Austria. The standardization aims to integrate different communication specifications across robot and charger manufacturers so that robots and chargers from different companies can communicate as if using a common language. "While the U.S. has dominated standards for smartphone and electric vehicle charging technologies, an opportunity has opened for Korea to take the lead in robot wireless charging technology," KETI Principal Researcher Park Yong-ju said, adding that the technology development will be completed by the end of 2028.
