Hanmi Semiconductor (042700.KS) said Wednesday it will establish a U.S. subsidiary called "Hanmi USA" in San Jose, California, by the end of this year, marking its full-scale entry into the U.S. semiconductor equipment market. In line with SK hynix's new U.S. plant, the company plans to directly supply core equipment for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) on the ground and actively target equipment demand from Big Tech companies.
By setting up a base in San Jose, the heart of Silicon Valley where Big Tech firms are concentrated, Hanmi Semiconductor plans to provide rapid technical support to its customers. The move aims to strengthen on-site response capabilities by deploying skilled engineers in line with the operating schedules of new plants from global semiconductor companies.
In particular, key customer SK hynix is building an advanced packaging fab in Lafayette, Indiana, with HBM production scheduled to begin in 2028. Hanmi Semiconductor plans to directly supply the necessary TC bonder equipment and personnel from nearby. Micron is also constructing an HBM plant in Boise, Idaho, next year, and plans to operate "Mega Fab," the largest memory production facility in the United States, in 2028. Intel and Tesla are also expanding their semiconductor fabs, fueling expectations of growing equipment demand.
"Through the U.S. subsidiary, we plan to actively support our customers' requirements at close range," Hanmi Semiconductor Chairman Kwak Dong-shin said. "We expect substantial equipment orders alongside new plant operations in the United States, which is emerging as a global semiconductor production hub, and we anticipate continued revenue growth going forward."
