Hanwha Corporation's (000880.KS) construction division will pilot its self-developed next-generation "ceiling-mounted electric vehicle charging system" at Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) public housing complexes.
Hanwha's construction division announced Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with LH the previous day for the first pilot introduction of the next-generation ceiling-mounted EV charging system. The signing ceremony was held at LH headquarters in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, with Park Kwang-ho, head of Hanwha's construction support division, and Choi Han-bong, director of LH's public housing electrical division, among officials from both companies in attendance.
Under the agreement, the next-generation ceiling-mounted EV charging system "EV Air Station" developed by Hanwha's construction division will be installed for the first time at Gwacheon S11BL Haengbok Housing and Daegu Yeonho A2BL apartment complexes.
EV Air Station is Korea's first EV charging system where the connector automatically descends from the ceiling. The product applies intelligent power distribution technology to charge three vehicles simultaneously with a single charger, enhancing space efficiency and user convenience.
The product addresses both fire risk and charger shortage issues that have plagued existing EV charging facilities. It won the "Top Innovation Award" at the 2025 Future Innovation Technology Expo, earning recognition for its technology. The system is equipped with fire detection sensors, fire detection cameras, and PLC (Power Line Communication) functionality that enables battery-charger information exchange, allowing early detection of abnormalities and preemptive prevention of fire risks.
Existing EV charging facilities have faced installation difficulties due to space occupation and power supply issues. EV Air Station solves these problems by utilizing ceiling space for flexible installation and maximizing operational efficiency through power distribution technology.
Hanwha's construction division plans to fully introduce EV Air Station to its "Hanwha Forena" residential complexes starting next year. Through this partnership with LH, the company expects to expand its application to the public housing market.
"Expanding EV charging facilities and strengthening safety management are essential tasks for public housing," Choi said. "Through collaboration with Hanwha's construction division, we will create safe and comfortable residential complexes."
