Oh Min-jung, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Korea University Guro Hospital, has been inaugurated as president of the Korean Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The two-year term began on the 1st of this month.
Founded in 1994, the society is an academic organization dedicated to advancing research in obstetrics and fetal medicine and to improving maternal and child health. It shares the latest findings in the care of high-risk mothers and fetuses while working to improve systems and policies for the safety of pregnant women.
From 2020 to 2025, the new president headed Korea University Guro Hospital's integrated care center for high-risk mothers and newborns, now the regional maternal and child medical center, focusing on care for high-risk mothers and newborns in southwestern Seoul. Within the society, the professor previously served as chair of the education committee, chair of the clinical practice guidelines committee, chair of the academic committee and vice president. In 2025, the professor received the Order of Service Merit from the Ministry of Health and Welfare in recognition of contributions to strengthening cooperation in maternal and child care.
"In an era of low births, pregnancies at advanced maternal age and high-risk pregnancies are actually increasing, which makes protecting each mother and each fetus all the more precious," the president said. "I will do my utmost to create an environment where every pregnant woman can give birth safely regardless of where she lives, and where doctors on the front lines of delivery can practice with peace of mind."
