In a statement issued on Sept. 14 under the name of KCUE Chairman Lee Ki-jung, the council said, "Considering that test-takers and parents who have spent a long time preparing for university admission suffered great anxiety and confusion in the final moments of the application period, we feel a heavy sense of responsibility and deep regret."
Earlier, on Sept. 11, the final day for applications, a system failure at Uway Apply, the agency handling application intake, prevented some test-takers from completing their applications normally between 5:50 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. The Ministry of Education estimates that as many as 1,200 test-takers were affected.
The KCUE said Thursday that it "has received materials from Uway Apply regarding the system failure and is closely reviewing them." It added, "Based on this, for test-takers who were unable to complete their applications normally due to this system failure, we will consult with the relevant universities and prepare reasonable and fair remedial procedures grounded in objective facts and verifiable materials."
The council also stressed that it will "carefully ensure that equity among test-takers and the fairness of the admissions process are not undermined in the course of preparing and implementing the remedial procedures."
