SK Telecom (017670.KS) has built a private 5G-based smart office at Hana Financial Group's Cheongna headquarters. In the first such case in the financial sector, about 3,000 employees will be able to access the company's internal work network without being tied to assigned seats or wired internet connections.
SK Telecom said on the 28th that it had begun operating the private 5G-based smart office together with Hana Financial Group and Samsung Electronics (005930.KS).
A private 5G network is a customized 5G network that a company or institution installs in a specific space using dedicated spectrum. SK Telecom built the private network across work and common areas from the first basement level to the 15th floor of Hana Financial Group's Cheongna headquarters, where affiliates have been moving in phases since this month. Hana Financial TI, the group's IT unit, also took part in the project, while Samsung Electronics supplied private 5G solutions including enterprise core and radio equipment.
Employees can connect to the work network from desks, meeting rooms and collaboration spaces using work devices such as laptops and tablets. Secure USIM authentication has been applied so that only registered work devices and users can gain access. The network was also configured as a private network separated from outside telecommunications networks to meet the security requirements of the financial industry.
SK Telecom and Hana Financial Group encrypted the 5G wireless segment and subscriber information, and applied firewalls, a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) response system and access controls. Through physical network separation, each Hana Financial Group affiliate can also operate its work network separately.
SK Telecom designed the network so that it can later be linked to smart building systems, intelligent access control, artificial intelligence-based closed-circuit television, mobile employee ID cards and AI services for work. Usage status and outages are also managed in an integrated manner through a centralized management system. "This smart office for Hana Financial Group is a leading AI transformation (AX) case that combines SKT's 5G, security and operational capabilities to support innovation in how the financial sector works," said Kim Gu-young, head of SK Telecom's enterprise business division. "We will continue to expand our enterprise AX business, which innovates work environments and business processes across a range of industries, including finance."
