Onconic Therapeutics (476060.KQ) will unveil a new drug candidate in obesity treatment on a global academic stage for the first time. The move expands the company's pipeline into the fast-growing obesity field, following the commercialization of its gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment Jaqbo and Phase 2 development of its cancer drug candidate Nesuparib.
Onconic Therapeutics said on the 28th that the first research findings on its new drug candidate were accepted as a Late-Breaking Abstract at ObesityWeek 2026, to be held in Washington, D.C., in November, and selected for an oral presentation.
ObesityWeek is a major global conference in the obesity field hosted by The Obesity Society (TOS). It features research spanning basic metabolic studies, drug development, clinical trials, nutrition, behavioral science and health policy. This year's event runs from Nov. 14 to 17 in Washington, D.C.
Late-Breaking Abstracts are selected through a comprehensive review that covers significance, including the importance and novelty of the research, as well as methods, results and conclusions. Onconic Therapeutics' study on the new candidate cleared that review, was accepted as a Late-Breaking Abstract and was then chosen for an oral presentation.
The candidate's pipeline name, specific mechanism of action and research results have not yet been disclosed. Under the conference's embargo policy, the information will be released in line with the November presentation schedule. The company plans to accelerate research and development of the new candidate starting with the conference presentation.
The disclosure is expected to further broaden Onconic Therapeutics' drug pipeline. The company launched Jaqbo, a P-CAB class gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment and the country's 37th officially registered homegrown new drug, in the domestic market in 2024, and is also developing the next-generation cancer candidate Nesuparib (JPI-547).
Nesuparib is in Phase 2 development targeting pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer and gastric cancer. Onconic Therapeutics is also pursuing business development for the drug, including expanded global trials and licensing deals.
"We have explored the potential of candidate substances and verified them through research, drawing on the drug development experience we have accumulated and our in-house AI-based analysis and screening system," an Onconic Therapeutics official said. "Starting with this presentation, we plan to disclose specific research results in stages and develop the candidate into a global drug."
