Choi Yong-hee of Hyundai Steel (004020) and Park Jeong-yoon of Changwon City Hall could not break through the wall of India, the dominant force in compound archery. The pair were chasing South Korea's first-ever title in the compound mixed team event but had to settle for silver after losing in a shoot-off.
The South Korean team of Choi and Park lost to India in a shoot-off in the archery mixed team final at the multipurpose plaza of Okazaki Central Park in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, on the 30th, at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The two sides were tied at 157-157 after four ends, but South Korea fell 19-20 in the ensuing shoot-off.
India successfully defended the title it won at the previous Games. South Korea has reached the final in all three editions since the mixed team event was added to the program at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games, but has never finished on top. The previous two silver medals both came in one-point defeats, and this time the team lost after a tight contest that went to a shoot-off, ending its hopes of a first gold.
Park, who earlier won a bronze in the women's team event alongside Park Ye-rin of Korea National Sport University and Kang Yeon-seo of Seongsa Middle School, collected her second medal of the Games.
Choi, a veteran who won a team silver at the 2014 Incheon Games and a team gold at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games, added an Asian Games medal after eight years.
India, which swept all five compound gold medals at the Hangzhou Games three years ago, has taken two golds at this edition as of the 30th, in the women's team and mixed team events.
