Police have begun providing personal protection for actor Yoo Hae-jin, the lead in the film "Assassins," as controversy over the movie continues.
The Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul decided to activate safety measures on the afternoon of the 6th after receiving a protection request from Yoo's agency, VAST Entertainment, according to police.
The measures follow rallies held by some conservative groups near Yoo's home over his appearance in "Assassins," along with threatening remarks posted online targeting the actor.
Ko Beom-seok, commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, said at a regular press briefing the same day that the rally "ended without any illegal acts," but added that "threats or intimidation against the actor will of course be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law."
