DAEJEON — Kim Jong-nam, 59, took office on the 6th as the fourth president of the Korea Forest Welfare Institute, following an inauguration ceremony at the institute's main conference room in Gwanjeo-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon.
"Forests are a public asset that enriches the lives of all citizens," Kim said. "We will expand their value so that everyone, from children to the elderly and residents of both cities and regional communities, can enjoy health and happiness through forests."
Kim also said the institute would strengthen its support base so that private-sector forest welfare specialists can build expertise and competitiveness and continue to grow. "We will reinforce cooperation with local communities and related agencies to deliver forest welfare that enriches residents' lives," he said.
Kim previously served as secretary general of the Korea Federation for Environmental Movement (KFEM) and as a livelihood policy adviser to the Daejeon city government. He served as a member of the Korea Forest Service's deliberation committee on green fund management in 2018.
A native of Boeun in North Chungcheong Province, Kim graduated from Chungnam National University with a degree in political science and public administration. He earned a master's degree in the same field from the university's graduate school and a doctorate in civil society studies there.
