DAEJEON — The Korea Forestry Promotion Institute is running an "Our Forest Plus" campaign designed to make carbon neutrality easier to put into practice.
The institute said on the 30th that participants in the campaign can receive support through its Forest Carbon Center across the entire carbon offset process — from simulated calculation of greenhouse gas emissions to the selection of offset projects and the purchase and retirement of forest carbon credits.
The program expands on the earlier "Our Forest" initiative, which supported the purchase of forest carbon credits, by helping participants calculate their carbon emissions using scientific methods and making carbon neutrality easier to achieve.
"Our Forest Plus" covers not only the purchase of forest carbon credits but the full process from emissions accounting to offset activities. The Forest Carbon Center supports emissions calculations based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the international standard for greenhouse gas accounting and reporting, and on ISO 14064, the International Organization for Standardization's standard for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions.
The institute also matches companies with forest carbon offset projects suited to their characteristics, allowing them to purchase the corresponding forest carbon credits and offset their emissions. Companies can use and publicize the results as carbon neutrality achievements.
Participating organizations can also receive social contribution certificates and support for external promotion of their carbon neutrality activities.
"We hope that efforts to cut carbon in daily life do not end as one-off events but continue as sustained practice," said Choi Moo-yeol, president of the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute.
