Yangju, a city in Gyeonggi Province, said on the 29th that it has launched a council of local education stakeholders and begun refining detailed project plans as it makes a final push for designation as an Education Innovation Leading District under a Ministry of Education competition.
The Yangju Education Innovation Council brings together the district office of education, city and provincial council members, schools, parents, local universities and industry representatives. The city said it has started translating demand from schools and other institutions into specific project components.
Council meetings focused on closing education gaps within the city and on linking schools with universities and companies. Participants also completed QR code surveys, which surfaced proposals on sharing educational resources among schools, supporting student transportation and drawing local businesses into education programs.
The city reviewed the proposals task by task, clarified the target of each project, how it would be run and the role of each participating institution, and incorporated the results into its final operating plan. Officials said the process gives residents and schools a formal channel that carries their input beyond a single round of consultation into actual implementation plans.
Yangju plans to establish the council as more than an advisory body, using it as a central channel for local education cooperation that continuously monitors project progress and takes in feedback from schools.
"Because every education stakeholder in the region put their heads together, we have completed a model that most faithfully reflects what the field is asking for," Mayor Jung Duk-young said. "We will make Yangju's distinctive education conditions our strength and secure designation as an Education Innovation Leading District."
